CAESALPINIA
PULCHERRIMA
Dwarf Poinciana
This large shrub/small tree has flowers that resemble a Royal
Poinciana tree with the advantage of
a smaller size. The Royal Poinciana, considered by some
the most beautiful flowering tree in the world, is large
ands can reach 30' in height with 50' spread. This makes
this Caesalpinia perfect
for smaller yards where space is limited. It grows in full
to partial sun. Provide average water and fertilizer during
the growing season. Keep a little drier during the winter,
when the plant can loose most of its leaves. It is quite
drought tolerant when established. It can reach 10'-12'
in height
and will bloom most of the time during warm weather. The
Dwarf Poinciana will bloom in a 10"
pot and can be kept small. If you choose you can trim it
back, do so during the winter right
before the plant resprouts in Feb/March. The plant should
survive temperatures in the high
20's and perhaps even lowers with adequate protection. As
long as the temperatures doesn't
go too much in the 20's, the plant should be kept outside.
This plant can be grown in pots, but
it will perform a lot better if eventually planted in the
ground.
