This small tree is recommended to be planted in the ground only in
tropical locations. It does
not look attractive if kept in a pot. Cordia boissieri can tolerate the cold more than Cordia
sebestena. It is relatively cold tolerant, but it can loose
its leaves during a hard freeze. This is
one of the best
flowering trees to have in the landscape near a house.
It is a relatively small
tree, clean, doesn't have a bad
root system and blooms most of the year. Its small height
and slow growth is suitable for gardeners with limited
space. It is called "Texas Olive" for
its olive
like fruits called drupe. The fruits attracts birds and
other wildlife, but is not recommended to be eaten by
humans.
